I am on a mission to assist and encourage individuals to create awareness, increase collaboration, cultivate learning, and reach their goals with greater efficiency and clarity. This desire to unify, lift up, and nurture one family, one person, at a time led to the creation of Lumina.

Background

My journey has led me from my small town Kansas roots to the Twin Cities and back again.  Since graduating in 2011 from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN with a B.A. in Psychology and Family Studies, I have had an array of experiences that have led me to this position of Business Owner, Advocate, and Coach.  My rich variety of experiences offer a unique lens into the complexity and beauty of each person's story.

Through all of my career opportunities, I have learned the most, no doubt, from my little sister, Kimber. Kimber's example of joy and fortitude has impacted me tremendously in the way I live my life. Kimber has needs that require support in a variety of ways.  By being present in her life I have not only been a witness - but a key player - in advocating for her goals, health, independence, and happiness. Due to this familial connection, I have a front-row seat in understanding just how overwhelming and exhausting the coordination of care for a loved one can be; especially within the framework of the current disability service models.

As Kimber grows older and the questions regarding her care increase in number and significance, it's clear to me that now is the time to make something new.  Through my own personal coaching experience I found that coaching was the perfect platform I was looking for to engage with families.  I wanted my family, and others, to learn and experience the benefits of coaching; for that to be the case I realized I needed to make it happen myself.  I am now a member of the International Coach Federation and graduate of Coach U's rigorous training. I am on my way to completing certification to be recognized as an Associate Certified Coach.

What Others Are Saying

Sam, you radiate a certain compassion and kindness that is so hard to find. Your goals and passions have been so refreshing and encouraging.
— Nick G. Fellow Coach U student
Samantha has excellent leadership qualities and empathy for those she serves. She throws herself wholeheartedly into working with individuals to help them reach their goals. At all of our meetings she was well prepared, creative in troubleshooting, and encouraged collaboration from everyone at the table. She does not back down from difficult conversations and has a way of calmly and confidently bringing people together. I have no doubt Samantha will make a positive impact in many people’s lives.
— -Laura Lindholm, Ramsey County Case Manager
Sam is very patient and relates well with children. I have observed her in many situations and remain impressed with her ability to be flexible, loving, and knowledgeable.
— Mary Walker, Grandmother and Retired School Teacher
Sam, Thank you for being so engaged with our group and the inquisitiveness you brought. You bring a quiet braveness that makes those around you feel safe and regarded.
— Deborah Fellow Coach U student

Each person has a unique set of gifts, talents, challenges, hopes, and needs.   By honoring these as what they are, I acknowledge that you are exactly where you are meant to be. I'm not interested in what you've been told that you cannot do. Instead, I am interested in uncovering and growing your skills and strengths to celebrate the person you are.
I am fueled by conversation that offers introspection, growth, and optimism.  My flexible style and calm demeanor are assets for creatively facilitating meetings, honestly sharing information, and capitalizing on joys and successes small and large.

Collaboration and unity happens when people care about the common goal and their teammates.  Empathy is valuing another's perspective and becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.   Faith means placing my hope in something much, much bigger than me.  "I can do all things in him who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13. Resilience  is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulty and rise stronger than before. I will be an extension of this hope and optimism.  Unconditional High Regard is the deep-seated belief that each person I encounter has untold potential. I will  honor him/her as an utterly unique human being who need not earn, nor beg, for my respect. Each individual will be loved and respected simply because he or she has been created in the image and likeness of God.
